Greater Columbus Learning Center is a community based Adult Basic Education Center. We have multimedia instruction for adults including non-readers through college prep levels. Learners may choose from a variety of instruction to compliment their preferred learning style.
Through our multi-generational approach, GCLC insures that persons from all sectors of the community have an opportunity for continuing education. All programs are offered on an “open-entry-open-exit” basis, at no cost to the client. The average annual enrollment is 1,000 individuals.
The center provides the following programs:
- Basic skills help (Reading, Math and Language)
- Test Preparation for GED, ACT, ASVAB and AFOQT
- English as a Second Language (ESOL)
- Scottish Rite (Dyslexia)
- Employability skills

The value of adult educational programs goes beyond providing a classroom education. Students are kept up-to-date on incoming businesses and work opportunities in the community. They also learn valuable skills in writing resumes and how to prepare for interviews. Students are encouraged to develop study skills and study schedules, skills which can serve them well in the work place.
Greater Columbus Learning Center has been recognized as one of the most technologically advanced adult education centers in the state. Among other honors awarded to GCLC are the State of Mississippi’s Governor’s Office of Literacy Recognition award for an exemplary literacy program. The Learning Center also received a special award for advancing the status of women.
